But First… How To Pick A Name
Choosing a name for your new pet can be difficult, so we’ve created a quick list of things that you should consider before going on a hunt for the perfect name.
These should hopefully help you narrow your search down so that naming your bearded dragon isn’t so difficult.
Step One: Determine Gender Type
First of all, you’re going to need to determine whether you want to use a name correlating with your bearded dragon’s gender or not. Some names are gendered while others are ungendered.
Ungendered names are great if you don’t know the gender of your dragon.
So, the first thing you need to do is pick between a male name, a female name, or a unisex name. Bearded dragons are not visibly gendered, so you can go with whatever name you want.
However, if you want to stick to their gender for their name, the best thing to do is to ask the breeder you purchased your dragon from.
Step Two: Get To Know Your Dragon
We know that it might be tempting to pick a name before you pick your dragon up and bring them home. However, sometimes a name is best when it’s chosen according to the dragon’s personality.
Remember that your dragon is not going to respond to the name you give it, so there is no rush to choose one.
You can sit with the decision for a few weeks and determine how your dragon’s personality fits into its name. You could take inspiration from its color and appearance, too, as well as its personality.
Step Three: Think About Your Interests
Again, since your bearded dragon is not going to respond to their name (or even understand what a name is) you can call it whatever you want. Do you have a favorite character from a book, TV show, or movie?
Even better if the name is of a fictional dragon in the media!
It is essential that you build a good relationship with your bearded dragon, and calling it after one of your favorite characters can help you do this. Plus, character names are super cool.
Step Four: Experiment With The Name
Now that you have considered both your bearded dragon’s personality and your interests, put it all together and experiment with the name. You could come up with a completely unique name that no one has ever heard of before!
Remember that you can always change your bearded dragon’s name if you decide that you don’t like it. However, this might influence your bond with it and cause a disconnect.
Again, there is no rush to name your dragon, so make sure you take your time with it.
